Pomelos and grapefruits represent a smaller segment of Egypt’s citrus production compared with oranges, mandarins, and lemons, but they remain valuable specialty fruits for domestic consumption, processing, and potential export opportunities. Recent FAOSTAT-based data indicate that Egypt produced approximately 4.5 thousand tonnes of pomelos and grapefruits in 2024, with a reported yield of around 15.4 tonnes per hectare and harvested area of approximately 293 hectares. Egypt has favorable conditions for citrus cultivation because of its warm climate, extensive irrigated agriculture, and expanding agricultural development in desert areas. Citrus production is concentrated around regions where irrigation infrastructure and suitable soils support commercial orchards. While oranges account for a substantial share of national citrus output, grapefruit and pomelo cultivation provides farmers with opportunities to diversify their fruit portfolios and serve specialized markets.
